2011 saw VW Action live up to
its name once again, with many cars from the European mainland and a
large field of extremely quick race and street VWs including Cal-Lookers
from the JG54 Greenhearts and SAS Rennwagens, A.C.E. and VWDRC racecars
along with the Split Buses of the BWA and Bays of the USB.
This year we expect to see a similarly strong field of
British and European VWs. The Run What You Brung/Test and Tune session
will again take place during the Saturday daytime, where many VWs from
Europe and the UK will feature amongst an open field with everything
from Fuel cars to street cars taking part. Throughout Saturday you will
be able to test and tune your own car on the dragstrip, just remember
to bring your driving licence. (There is an additional 'signing on'
fee to take part in this activity.)
CLYDE BERG
This year's 'Guest Of Honour' at VW Action will be son of VW legend Gene Berg - Clyde Berg. A USA VW Drag Racing star and VW performance guru in his own right, Clyde will be on hand to meet and chat with visitors to VW Action and will be presenting the Show & Shine trophies etc., much like California's Randy Carlson did in 2011. On top of this, Clyde will also be taking part in the VW Action Night Racing session in his old car. The car is now owned by Kaag Kevers proprietor and VW drag racer Ingmar Devos who will be bringing the car to Santa Pod from the Netherlands for Clyde to use.
VW Action promoters NAS Events have always been at the forefront of bringing international guests to the UK and their events have previously seen the likes of Clyde's father Gene (RIP), Hot VWs R.K. Smith, Orange County Raceway commentator Dyno Don Chamberlin, Ron Lummus and the now infamous Hoodride founder Dopebeat Derrick amongst others. VW Drag Race fans should be in for a real treat at this event.
VW Action introduced the VW Action 'Speed Club'
for all sub 13 second VWs running at the event. Backed up 12.99 to 12.00
gains automatic entry into the '12 second club', and a 12 second club
trophy (A VW Action 'Oscar' engraved "12 SECOND CLUB"). 11.99
to 11.00, 10.99 to 10.00, and 9.99 to 9.00 similarly have their respective
clubs, all of which have trophies for every new member, and all of which
will be recorded and records maintained, on the VW Action website. Entry
into these exclusive clubs is automatic and free on the production of
two timing tickets with 1% of each other. We are looking to induct further
members into every one of these clubs during the weekend.
NIGHT RACING £1000+ PRIZE FUND!
The night racing at VW Action - without doubt most spectator's favourite session of the weekend - now has a prize fund, to be shared between the quickest VWs on the track on Saturday evening. The prize fund currently stands at £1000+ to be split amongst the quickest 10 cars and quickest 5 buses in this session.

Runs made during the daytime on Saturday will count for the various VW Action Speed Clubs etc., but ONLY runs made during the official night racing session will attract prize money.

Action will also feature an awesome array of the very fastest demo
cars the sport has to offer. This has once again been made possible by
the fact that VW Action is the week before the 'FIA European Finals',
and a number of cars have taken the opportunity to get some testing in
before they race in earnest the following weekend. There will be Top
Fuel cars from across Europe, capable of running the quarter-mile in
less than 5 seconds and speeds in excess of 300mph. You will also be
able to check out the the fastest 'doorslammers' around, and many other
'demo' drag racers, testing for the FIA European Finals. Also look
out for the sessions involving the Supercharged Outlaws, the 'Wacky
Racers' of drag racing, with Supercharged Nitro and Alcohol burning
Rails, Slingshots, Coupes, Sedans and even pick ups.
Once
again, VW Action will feature Night Racing on the Saturday Evening and
more 'Peak Performance' testing on the track throughout Sunday. Add
to all this, the Fireforce Jet Car and there really is something for
everyone on the track at VW Action.
