SHOW & SHINE and EDV COMPETITIONS

VW Action has always been at the forefront of Show & Shine/Concours events. For many years Action has been a leader, not a follower. A few years ago, the show broke with the tradition of a class based structure, for one simple reason. Too many great cars were leaving without a trophy, especially in the most hotly contested classes.

The 'Top Twenty' format at Action has now been taken up by many other shows, as it is the means by which the greatest number of worthy cars are rewarded with a trophy. The scale of the VW Action show and shine however, means that there are separate 'top twenty' prizewinners for Air Cooled and Water Cooled cars. The Show & Shine Concours takes place on Sunday, with Saturday being reserved for the 'EDV' (Every Day Vehicle), a trailer queen free zone, exclusively for cars which see regular use on the road.

None of the show car competitions at VW Action have an entry charge, so if your car attracts admiring glances, be sure to enter in the appropriate free Show & Shine competition. We will be inviting European cars over to VW Action on assisted passages, just like we did back in the late 80s, and these will include specially invited cars selected from attendees and winners of recent European shows, to contest an award which totally captured the imagination 20 years ago, and was re-introduced at VW Action in 2007, the 'Europe's Most Beautiful VW' competition.

EVERYDAY VEHICLE CONCOURS- Saturday only
Morning Assembly - 2.45pm for Trophy Presentation
This will be the eleventh Everyday Vehicle Show & Shine competition. The number of entrants has boomed since this competition replaced the Pride and Joy Concours in 1998. The number and quality of entrants has increased to the point that we had to increase the number of trophies to 20, offering 10 for WATER-COOLED vehicles and 10 for AIR-COOLED. These trophies are not divided into classes, and the criterion is pretty much the 20 cars the judges would most like to own . . .

Our judges have all built trophy traps, but recognise the different considerations involved in 'daily drivers'. If your vehicle is your everyday transport then itÍs not expected to be flawless, so don't be shy. In this competition especially, cars that are genuinely 'everyday transport' often win out over cars that are immaculate but questionably in 'frequent' use. We would not discourage anyone from taking part, but please, if you don't win anything try again on Sunday. Entry in this event is a MUST if you are proud of your VW.

CLASSES IN SHOW & SHINE/CONCOURS - Sunday only
The concours display area will be divided into four sections:
Standard Air Cooled
Standard Water Cooled
Modified/Custom Air Cooled
Modified/Custom Water Cooled

Your car will fit one and only one of these descriptions. (Modification relates to the original vehicle, therefore an originally air cooled car fitted with a water cooled engine is a Modified Air Cooled) That is both the area of the concours arena in which you will display, and the cars against which you will be judged. Using this format, four or five very similar cars, with hundreds of hours work, which previously might have been trimmed to just one trophy winner, could all be in contention for a TOP TEN placing.

There are specific instructions issued to judges. These instructions/guidelines are available to anyone who wishes to see them, but basically deal with levelling the playing field in respect of older or rarer vehicles. (Levelling, not favouring, just giving due consideration to all factors.) The Judges for each of the four categories will be selecting ten vehicles. These forty vehicles will be considered by all judges, firstly to establish a 'Best of Show' for each of the four categories. Please be assured that this format has been arrived at over many hours' deliberation, by judges whose only concern is to see that the most 'worthy' vehicles are rewarded with a trophy. Enter on the day (Sunday) no pre-registration required. Just take your vehicle to the Show & Shine arena and the Marshals will instruct you what to do.

NO CHARGE FOR ENTRY INTO ANY OF OUR SHOW & SHINE/CONCOURS EVENTS.

EUROPE'S MOST BEAUTIFUL VW
Having been re-introduced in 2007, after many years absence, the 'Europe's Most Beautiful VW' Rose-bowl Trophy is to be contested again for 2009.

This time, unlike previous contests, the vehicles do not necessarily have to travel to the UK to win, because we will be sending the judges out to several European events, after which we will advise the top ten ranking cars from those events of their prominence in the 'Europe's Most Beautiful VW' contest. We will also offer those cars assisted passages to the UK for the Rose-bowl trophy competition, which will be a straight contest between the pre selected cars and the winners of each of the four categories in the VW Action Show & Shine.

VW ACTION BIKE SHOW & SHINE
The Bike Show & Shine, is open to anyone wishing to display their lowrider bikes, beach cruisers, or choppers (including derivatives). Since a number of people use two wheels to cruise the event venue, we have decided that in recognition of the ingenuity and engineering skills on display, we'd like to assemble the best examples in one place. Three trophies will be contested; (Best Custom, Best Stock, and Best Of Show)

There will be a 'preview' lineup of bikes on Saturday, during the Daily Driver Show & Shine (at which attendance is not compulsory). The lineup will be reassembling on Sunday morning for the VW Action Show & Shine/Concours. (Judging will only take place on Sunday.)

Entry is 'on the day' although we would encourage everyone to email us in advance of their intention to take part.
