THE WORLD'S FASTEST INDIAN
Midday Saturday in the Fuellers Bar, sees a movie to perfectly compliment the display of air-cooled vintage speed bikes, the superb 'The World's Fastest Indian'
New Zealander Burt Monro, set an under 1000cc World Record at Bonneville Salt Flats, with a modified 1920 Indian Scout motorbike. It featured a drop tank/Belly tank full fairing. Burt and his bike are featured in the film, a 'Hollywood' version of what actually happened when Burt went to Bonneville speed week in 1967. The documentary footage featuring the real Burt Munro will also be shown.
The bikes on display at VW Action are all in their own way testament to the ingenuity of the privateer home mechanics and experimental engineers, who built these amazing machines with one single aim... extracting the maximum possible speed from their primitive engines and frames.
Burt Munro's Records
- In 1962 he set a world record of 288 km/h (178.97 mph) with his engine bored out to 850 cc (51 in?).

To qualify he made a one-way run of 305.89 km/h (190.07 mph), the fastest-ever officially-recorded speed on an Indian. The unofficial speed record (officially timed) is 331 km/h (205.67 mph) for a flying mile.
